RINGO STARR TELLS FANS: 'I'VE HAD ENOUGH'

GRUMPY: Ringo will "toss" any fanmail after the 20th October

Tuesday October 14,2008

By Nicola McCafferty for express.co.uk

GRUMPY Ringo Starr never wants to hear from you again.

The Beatles drummer has told fans that if they write him anymore letters or ask for an autograph, he will put it in the bin.

After 45 years of stardom, the miserable rocker has posted an angry message on his website saying he doesn't want to spend any more of his time answering letters or signing photos for hardcore fans.

The bizarre star tells fans he's got "too much to do" and won't answer anything after October 20.

In the clip he says: "This is a serious message to everyone watching.

"I want to tell you that after the 20th of October please do not send any fanmail to any address you have. If that is the date on the envelope, it's gonna be tossed.

"I'm warning you with peace and love, I have too much to do.

"So no more fan mail. Thank you, thank you. And no objects to be signed. Nothing.

"Anyway, peace and love, peace and love."

The rude 68-year-old is of stark contrast to the guest appearance he made on a 1991 episode of "The Simpsons," where he is shown scrupulously answering every piece of fan mail he receives.

On the programme he says: "They took the time to write to me, and I don't care if it takes 20 years, I'm going to answer every one of them."

In his mail, he finds a package from Marge Simpson that contains a portrait she painted of him back in the Beatles heyday. He puts it on his wall and writes back to tell her — a few decades late — how much he likes her painting.

Let's hope no real fans have been waiting that long for a reply...

CAN'T EAT YOUR CAKE....

15.10.08, 10:53pm

So after reading all the comments I might be a little confused...Am I getting this straight? We fans can sod off and that Ringo want no contact with us except when we buy concert tickets and albums..He could have done that without the video insult..or any insult at all...He forgets how hard it is to make a buck and when we spend it on him he should be gracious as there are many others out there we can spend it on. Without that money we have spent over the years he would have been living the last 40 years in Liverpool trying to irk out a living playing weekend gigs doing a battle of the drummers with Pete Best and collecting his pension. He wants a rest? Great! Be gracious and do it with class...I as a Bass Player have played with and have been invited to join a few major acts just as they were breaking big...We had friends who were already making it big from the Seattle market so I knew the up and down side of fame before I made those choices...I chose against it. It wasn't worth the wealth and priviledge it bought. I struggle now but I am mostly happy... Ringo knows the up side and the down side too. He knows better than to post a video like that...or he should... He HAS NOT sacrificed a thing to be able to just play his music like alot of us have..He has been well compensated and so owes alot more than those of us who sacrifice to just play our music do!!!
Is there any way to remix all those Beatles albums with Pete Best at the drums? I love the Music of the Beatles but I just don't prefer to listen to anything with Ringo Starr on it after October 20th...

RINGO WHO?

15.10.08, 7:30am

Who is this miserable old git? Has he got any fans? To my mind John Lennon was the only member of the Beatles with any talent. The others trailed miles behind. Ringo Starr should just shut up and fade back into obscurity.

HOW CAN........

14.10.08, 8:58pm

a washed up has-been have too much to do? not exactly flooding the charts with monster hits, is he?. As for being called a drummer, thats one big joke. His job was to make the other three look good, so he had to sit behind them and look gormless, something which he excelled at! and still does.

Peace and love.. pathetic little man!

ARROGANT LITTLE ****

14.10.08, 8:11pm

Seems to me he is forgetting who put him where he is. I feel sorry for his fans, who must be greatly disappointed in him.
Mind you, he was never much of a drummer and his crowning musical achievement was, yep, the inane "Yellow Submarine" ! Doh !
Incidentally, he sounded to me like he was very much, er, "out of it" on something when he recorded that video message.
I guess we have to put it down to bad judgement, an ungracious attitude, and that being his equivalent of Lennon's disastrous "bigger than Jesus" comment.

RINGO - GOOD LUCK FOR THE FUTURE

14.10.08, 7:37pm

I think he is the best of the bunch along with George Harrison but after all these years, surely he is aloud to have a rest - It must get mundane signing and signing - how many others have done it for so long. He's just straight talking - Liverpool people are - it's not rude - salt of the earth when you need them. I understand and I come from the midlands - mind your `P's and Q's area' - Good luck to him. Wonderful man and thanks for giving so much pleasure - as he says - Peace and love - what can be nicer than that.
