Murphy has just been invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the group that hands out the Oscars.

Leeds-born Mel, 32, moved to Los Angeles last year and became pregnant two months after meeting Murphy. But despite declaring his undying love for Mel, Murphy told a live TV audience in December that their affair was over.
He said: “I don’t know whose baby it is until it comes out and has a blood test. You should not jump to conclusions.”

But furious Mel retaliated: “He knows it’s his.”

After giving birth on April 3, she named the baby Angel Iris Murphy Brown and listed the actor as the father on the birth certificate. Murphy finally took a DNA test on the order of a Los Angeles court.

He has four daughters and a son with former wife Nicole Mitchell and a son by an ex-girlfriend. Mel has a daughter Phoenix Chi, eight, with her former husband Jimmy Gulzar.
